The University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley will offer an intensive 3-credit course on the subject of reading and writing memoir, or biography. The course will be taught by Bill Gillard, UWFox assistant professor of English, published author and poet.
“This class is about the stories others tell, and the stories we tell ourselves, “Gillard said. “To be able to tell our story eloquently and move others is one of the most meaningful skills one can have.” Coursework will include a combination of reading published memoirs, both long and short form; writing original work; discussion and workshopping of each other’s written work. Gillard explained, “It’s a class oriented around narrative storytelling, a class perfectly suited to summer.”
Students and community members can take the course for academic credit or non-credit audit. Classes are held June 20-July 28 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the UWFox campus on Midway Road in Menasha.
To register for the class, go to www.uwfox.uwc.edu and click on “Register Online” under “Take Me To.” If auditing the class, apply as a special student. Special students who register to audit this class pay $159, and Wisconsin residents age 60 or over may audit courses at no charge.
