If you've ever wondered whether or not college is the right choice for you…or if you’re a parent that’s pondered whether or not college is affordable or desirable for your high school-age child, a special “Parent/Student College Information Night” may be just what you need to provide you with some of the answers to your questions. The “Information Night” is being held at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley on Friday, March 10, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the campus’ Student Union.
“This Information Night is primarily targeted at the Hmong and Hispanic communities, but all interested individuals and families are welcome” according to Pa Lee Moua, Multicultural Student Advisor at UWFox. “After a general session, we’ll be breaking out in small groups to offer informational sessions in Hmong, Spanish and English. All of our sessions will cover admission requirements, financial aid, availability of scholarships, academic support, what’s expected of college students, and what the college environment is all about.”
The “Information Night” is being jointly sponsored by UWFox and UW-Oshkosh. In addition to UWFox’s Moua presenting information in English, UW-Oshkosh admissions counselors Thomas Xiong and Flora Stapel will be conducting sessions in Hmong and Spanish, respectively.
“Adults who are interested in starting or returning to college can attend, as well as thosehigh school students and their parents who want to find out more about college-related issues,” Moua said. “It will give those attending a better perspective of the resources at UWFox and UW-Oshkosh and which people to contact in order to get assistance, if it’s needed. We want to steer interested individuals down the path of academic success.”
Individuals and families wishing to attend “Information Night” should contact Moua at 920-832-2624 or email her at email@example.com. The University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley is located at 1478 Midway Road, Menasha, between S. Oneida St. on the east, S. Appleton Road on the west, and just south of Hwy. 441. Free parking is available on the west side of the campus. Attendees should use the entrance nearest the campus’ signature landmark, the Barlow Planetarium.
