The Universal Multicultural Association (UMA) at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley will host its third annual “Around the World” evening of cultural cuisine and entertainment on Friday, December 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the student union.
A growing benefit for UMA scholarships on campus, the event will feature all kinds of food from appetizers to desserts. According to Pa Lee Moua, UWFox multicultural student advisor, “The majority of the food is donated from local diverse community restaurants and organizations. Our community is so supportive and generous. This event would not be successful if it wasn’t for their support.”
Ethnic performances, primarily representing Hmong and Hispanic cultures, will begin at 5 p.m. and the cultural cuisine is served from 6-7 p.m. This time also gives attendees an opportunity to bid on a distinctive array of silent auction items, including an autographed Packers football, Green Bay Gambler tickets, PAC tickets and various restaurant gift certificates. Bidding begins December 1 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the campus’ Atrium, adjacent to the Union. However, bids will remain open until 7:45 p.m. on the night of the event.
Moua explained, “This is a student-focused event so the UMA members work very hard to make sure it is a success, from planning through the last performance. Our diversity fact session is where each student presents something unique about another cultural group. It’s a wonderful evening that blends food, entertainment and education.”
Advance tickets are $10 for adults (18 and older) and $8 for students with an ID. Children 12 and under are free. For tickets, contact Pa Lee Moua at (920) 832-2624 or firstname.lastname@example.org Tickets at the door are $15 for adults and $13 for students.
