The Fox Valley Concert Band, under the direction of Dr. Marc Sackman, is presenting its annual holiday concert at 4:00 p.m. on December 8. The performance is in the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley’s Fine Arts Theatre.
Sackman, assistant professor of music and band director at UWFox, said that, “The Concert Band is scheduled to perform a wide range of music, from the ‘Aegean Festival Overture,’ by Andreas Makris, to Alfred Reed’s ‘Russian Christmas.’”
“Also included in the Fox Valley Concert Band program is ‘Courtly Airs and Dances’ by Ron Nelson,” Sackman said, “which is based on the music of the European Renaissance. Another number we’re doing, ‘An Adventure at Sea,’ was written by a member of the Concert Band, bassoonist Julie Brown, who teaches in the Appleton school district.”
Since Sackman believes that, “No band concert would be complete without a march,” he has included the beautiful “March of the Belgian Parachutists,” by Pieter Leemans. He added, “We’ll round out the concert with, ‘A Christmas Festival,’ by Leroy Anderson.”
The concert is free to the public, with open and unreserved seating. For more information about the Fox Valley Concert Band’s annual holiday concert, contact Sackman at 832-2625 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
