One of the nation’s most acclaimed a cappella music groups is performing at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley on Wednesday, March 2, from Noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Student Union. “Chapter 6” has received numerous awards and recognition for their technique, performance, and original musical arrangements, which is made entirely by voice. Comprised of six singers and one musical arranger, the group has created a diverse medley of original arrangements ranging from jazz, gospel, pop, classical renaissance, and rock. The performance is free and open to the public, with open and unreserved seating.
For “Chapter 6,” what started out as a college course in 1995 eventually became the premiere jazz a cappella ensemble at Milliken University in Decatur, IL. When the last of the current members graduated in December 2001, the group became full-time professional performers. “Chapter 6” has released two compact discs, “A Cappella 101” and “Chapter 6: Live.”
“Chapter 6” won the Chicago Harmony Sweepstakes in the year 2000, making them the youngest group to ever qualify for the National Finals. In New York City, “Chapter 6” was recognized as the 2001 International Collegiate A Cappella Grand Champion. In 2002, the group again won the Chicago Harmony Sweepstakes and later placed third in the National Harmony Sweepstakes.
Presently based in Chicago, “Chapter 6” has performed in front of enthusiastic audiences in Milwaukee, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Philadelphia, Fort Lauderdale, and throughout New England. They have also had numerous appearances on the broadcast media, including ABC’s “Good Morning America,” WGN Radio (Chicago), and at various athletic events. Additionally, the group has performed on over 70 college campuses.
The performance by “Chapter 6” is sponsored by the UWFox Campus Activities Board. Free parking is available on the west side of the campus, which located at 1478 Midway Road in Menasha.
