UWFox Hosts ‘Behind the Swoosh’

The University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley is hosting a presentation, “Behind the Swoosh: Sweatshops and Social Justice,” on Monday, March 10, in the campus’ Student Union. Jim Keady, co-founder of Educating for Justice, Inc., will be making the presentation from noon to 1:00 p.m.
Educating for Justice, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization based in Asbury Park, NJ. According to Keady, Educating for Justice, Inc. focuses on educating and empowering citizens to take action to end social injustice.
Keady has done significant field research in Indonesia since the year 2000, and has interviewed workers that produce products for athletic shoe and apparel giant, Nike, as well as its competitors. He is also a shareholder of Nike stock, and as such he has pressed the company for changes in its manufacturing processes.
Keady and his colleagues have produced a number of short videos about Nike’s sweatshops and about students who are fighting to change the current production situation.
Members of Congress have invited Keady and his colleagues to brief the lawmakers about Nike’s operations in Indonesia.
Keady and his colleagues are currently in production on a feature-length documentary film about “sweatshop” production, entitled, “Sweat.”
