Hometown: Omro, WI
Current residence: Omro, WI
When attended UWFox: Fall 2009 through Spring 2011
Background before UWFox:
I was originally home schooled before I entered the Omro school system, attending Omro High School, and graduating in 2009. While I was in high school, I was a lifeguard at the local pool. I also helped my father with his Corvette restoration business, taking apart motors and wrapping items to be shipped. The summer after my junior year in high school I was one of three students in my high school chosen to have the opportunity to attend Badger Boys State.
When I was younger my family and I had the opportunity to travel frequently because of our home schooling. I’ve been to many of our country’s states, and seen many memorable sites along the way, including the Grand Canyon, Painted Desert, Mount Rushmore, the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, the St. Louis Arch, Plymouth Rock and Key West. I’ve been from Los Angeles to Miami, from San Antonio to Seattle, all within the comfort of a car. My parents believed in incorporating travel and sight-seeing with historical knowledge to broaden our education.
Why did you choose UWFox?
I chose UWFox because it was financially beneficial to my future. With my parents paying for my education here, it was hard to consider other options. There were abundant advantages for me to attend UWFox , and living at home saved me a lot of money. The only downside has been the 30 minute commute each way. I’ve found the overall environment at UWFox to be excellent. Although the coursework is challenging, professors are willing to help. UWFox provides numerous resources for students to succeed. The small class sizes provide a fantastic learning atmosphere.
Have you chosen a major?
My chosen major is Aerospace Engineering.
What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?
UWFox has taught me discipline, time management and sharpened my study skills. The people I’ve met along the way at the campus have been my most interesting experience. The relationships I have here at UWFox will be with me a lifetime.
I believe that, when meeting problems, it’s important to find the solutions. As long as commitment and patience are involved, finding solutions may take time but they will be found. Motivation is one of the biggest factors I found to aid in my success. Developing the mind starts with developing the spirit.
What are your career plans after UWFox?
I plan to finish my education at the University of Minnesota while in Air Force ROTC. After my military service is complete, I’ll utilize my degree and experience to pursue a civilian job.
Other interesting things about yourself that you’d like to share?
I’m the Vice President of Campus Crusade for Christ at UWFox, and I also tutor math in the campus’ Learning Center. I’m a judge for high school power lifting meets. I participate in an annual community fundraiser on Door County’s Washington Island called the Scandinavian Festival, where dances from the region are performed while dressed up in Scandinavian outfits. Also, last year I was involved with the UWFox Ballroom Dance club.
