Hometown: Appleton, WI
Current residence: Appleton, WI
When attended UWFox: Fall 2010 – Spring 2012
Background before UWFox
I graduated from Appleton East HS in spring 2010. I worked in the Golf Pro Shop at Riverview Country Club from 2008-2011, when the club was recently sold.
Why did you choose UWFox?
The main reason I came to UWFox was to save money. I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do in terms of a career path and I didn’t want to spend the money for a four-year university not knowing what I wanted to do. UWFox was a great starting point and helped me decide on a major by being able to take a variety of classes and test different possibilities. Before coming to UWFox, I had some ideas about what I wanted to do as career, but I was not one hundred percent sure and I wasn’t quite ready to make a final decision. Testing the various possibilities made me realize my passions for design, math, and science. This realization helped me decide on my major and where I plan to transfer after the Spring 2012 semester.
Have you chosen a major?
I plan to major in Mechanical Engineering and complete my bachelor’s degree by finishing my coursework at UW- Platteville.
What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?
I find it interesting that UWFox has the Barlow Planetarium attached to it. Astronomy has always been an interest of mine and I am currently working part-time at the planetarium.
Another thing that I find rewarding is that UWFox is a great transition from high school to college. It’s not too large, so it’s not an overwhelming step. It also has a student-friendly environment, as the class sizes don’t usually exceed 30 students, making it easy to talk to the professors if needed.
What are your career plans after UWFox?
I plan on getting a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from UW-Platteville. I’m hoping to find a job that has to do with design, as that’s my primary interest in the field of engineering. Once I’m settled in a career, I may go back to college and work on getting my master’s degree.
Other interesting things about yourself that you’d like to share?
My personal interests include all sports (mostly golf and baseball), drawing/sketching/design, cars, and anything to do with music.
