“The best choice I’ve made since starting at UWFox was getting involved in clubs and the campus in general.”

Age: 24

Hometown: Appleton, WI

Current residence: Appleton, WI

When attended UWFox: Fall 2008-Spring2011

Background before UWFox:

“I graduated in 2003 after attending Appleton West High School and the Renaissance Charter School in Appleton.  After high school I worked various jobs including waitressing, working at a transportation company and managing a small computer company.  During this time I explored the United States by traveling, including a five week road trip to the east coast.  I’ve also been able to travel to Mexico and various islands in the Caribbean including St. Thomas, St. Martin, and Tortola.  After being in the work force and having a child of my own I decided I wanted to be an elementary teacher and work with children, so I decided to go back to college.”

Why did you choose UWFox?

“When I decided to return to college I knew I would be attending UWFox.  I did attend UWFox my first semester out of high school, so I was already familiar with the campus.  Also, UWFox is close to home, which was important to me along with being a small, comfortable school.”

Have you chosen a major?

“I’m pursuing dual majors in Elementary Education and Special Education.  I’ll be finishing at UWFox during the Spring semester 2010 and will be transferring to UW Oshkosh for the Fall semester2010.”

What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?

“The best choice I’ve made since starting at UWFox was getting involved in clubs and the campus in general.  Getting to know different people, students, faculty and staff around the campus really helps you open up and really builds you as a person.  UWFox has many great resources and I’ve been able to take advantage of some these while I have been here, including, ‘The Writing Pad’ lab.  Not only has ‘The Writing Pad’ helped me build better essays, I’ve also learned how to become a better writer.  While attending UWFox, my faculty education advisor has continued to promote the importance of volunteering.  I’ve become involved with a couple of different organizations that have helped me learn more about our society and have opened my eyes to more of the world.  I’ve learned the advantages of getting involved in our community and have been able to see how rewarding volunteering can be.”

What are your career plans after UWFox?

“After I complete my college education and receive my teaching license I plan on getting a job as a special education teacher, hopefully in the Fox Cities area.”

Other interesting things you’d like to share?

“I’m a member of the campus Education Club, a UWFox Ambassador, a peer consultant for ‘The Writing Pad,’ and the Box Office Manager at the UWFox Theatre. I’m also an Education Assistant through the Appleton Area School District and the Menasha Joint School District. This year I’ve been involved in volunteering through Youth-Go in Neenah, the Fox Valley Sibling Support Network and the ARC of Fox Cities.”
