Age: 47

Hometown: Mosinee, WI

Current residence: Menasha, WI

When attended UWFox: Fall 2008 - Spring 2012

Background before UWFox

I graduated from Mosinee HS in 1982. While I was in high school I worked at several grocery stores and even delivered paper “flyers” for the stores to homes and businesses.  During my summers I worked on a farm baling hay and doing other odd jobs.  While I was in high school I was involved with the “Adventurer’s Club” and was an officer in the local Future Farmers of America chapter.

I started my college career at UW-Marathon County (Wausau), where I took classes for a year and a half.   I eventually moved to Texas, where I worked there in the retail jewelry business for five years at stores in Ft. Worth and Wichita Falls.

I eventually moved back to Mosinee and worked for ITT Financial for three years, then joined the TCF National Bank staff in 1993.  I’ve been with TCF ever since.

Why did you choose UWFox?

I always wanted to finish my college degree. I realized that UWFox is literally “in my back yard,” and it’s so convenient for me to take college classes there. TCF has been very good to me by providing me the incentive to go to college through its tuition reimbursement program. With the encouragement of my wife and family, it’s just a great opportunity for me to work toward my degree with the campus so close.

Have you chosen a major?

Business Administration

What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?

I’ve found that it’s really an interesting experience for me to balance college, family and career.  The faculty at UWFox is amazing to me. You know where to go and who to talk to when you need help in a class. The faculty members really work with you to help you get through the class and master the content.  I’ve also enjoyed the intergenerational experiences I’ve had in some of my classes. Business people, like me, have the perspective of real-world experience, while the younger students bring a freshness and idealism to my classes. That makes for some interesting class discussions!

What are your career plans after UWFox?

I’m a Vice President and Regional Manager for TCF, and I hope to continue to grow in my career with TCF.

Other interesting things about yourself that you’d like to share?

I’ve been married to my wife, Dena, for 18 years. We have three children, including Kendra, Jacob and Joseph.  I’m on the Board of Directors of the Neenah-Menasha YMCA, and serve on the Board’s Budget and Finance Committee. I’ve participated in several of my church’s mission trips to Africa and France. My wife and I have been able to enjoy TCF business-related trips to Aruba, Costa Rica, the Cayman Islands, Hawaii, Cabo San Lucas, and various Caribbean sites.
