Background before UWFox

I obtained my high school diploma in 2008 through the American School of Correspondence, an accredited homeschooling program, in which through the U.S. mail teachers grade your assignments. I worked low-end management at GameStop when I turned eighteen, and then decided it was too stressful for not enough pay, so I left to serve chicken wings. I helped move my brother to Seattle a few months before my first semester at UWFox. My brother and I almost drove off a mountain during white-out conditions. My dad was driving behind us, and later told us he hadn't responded to our walkie-talkie calls because he was trying to formulate how to tell my mother both her children had died. Obviously, we made it there alright, though!

Why did you choose UWFox?

UWFox is very close to my home, and very affordable. I also believed it would be a good transition college to get me back into the swing of things, since I had been out of public school for nearly five years.

Have you chosen a major?

Psychology

What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?

I've learned so much over the past two years at UWFox. I'm in biology right now, and we're learning about all the ways humans have affected the eco-system. It's very interesting, and makes me feel motivated to be less wasteful and more productive about helping the environment.

What are your career plans after UWFox?

I’ll be transferring to UW Oshkosh for the Spring 2014 semester. After that, I plan on going to graduate school. I'm not sure exactly where yet, but I'd love to go someplace warm! I plan on obtaining my master's degree, at least, and depending how that goes, I may go for my Ph.D. I would love to conduct research and studies, along with performing therapy, for the remainder of my life.

Other interesting things about yourself that you’d like to share?

I wrote and published a sci-fi/adventure/dystopian novel over the summer called, “Tori's Wasteland.” It takes place 150 years in the future when the world is running out of oil. I expect it to be on the banned books list if it ever becomes popular.
