Background before UWFox

I graduated from Amherst High School in the spring of 2011. During high school, I stayed active by participating in sports and activities like dance, track, cross county, soccer, and basketball. I would spend my free time hanging out with friends and family as well as traveling across the U.S. during either spring or summer break(s).  I held multiple part time jobs where I learned organization, dedication, and how to prioritize my time. I met a variety of different people at each job which opened my eyes to the diversity outside of my hometown. I also spent time volunteering throughout my community. Before graduation, I volunteered through Special Olympics. By participating in such an inspirational event, I came to realize that I had developed a special place in my heart for the disabled and mentally challenged. I was able to understand that no matter how big or small, we all can impact one another’s lives. Through volunteering in general, I found myself to be more empathetic and more aware of other’s struggles and challenges.

Why did you choose UWFox?

After graduation from high school, I wasn’t sure which college I wanted to attend. After weighing out the pros and cons of each option, I found that the best place to start my next chapter of my life was here at UWFox; it was extremely affordable and only an hour away from my home town.

What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?

By attending college at UWFox, I’ve developed good friendships with my professors, classmates, and co-workers. I have had to honor to work with in the Student Services Office. By numerous hours I have spent in the art studio, my passion for art and design has only grown stronger.

What are your career plans after UWFox?

Next fall, I will be attending UW-Stout where I will continue to work on my bachelor’s degree.

Other interesting things about yourself that you'd like to share?

Since moving to Appleton, I’ve  become independent in more ways than one. I learned to become financially stable by having my bills paid and college tuition paid on time. My work ethic only became stronger by taking on two jobs.  I’ve developed strong attributes of time management by balancing work, college and a social life. And during times of struggle and stress through being independent, I found having a good sense of humor can help you cope with anything. I know I wouldn’t be where I am today without the help of others and their support. So if I’m given the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life, I will take on the opportunity with arms wide open.
