Age: 21

Hometown and Current residence: Appleton, WI

Current program: Computer Science; started in the fall of 2011

Background before UWFox:

I went to Appleton East High School, and one of places I spent my free time then was with the Christian outreach group Sons of Thunder. We aimed to provide a safe and positive environment for others utilizing paintball. The summer leading up to my first semester at UWFox, I started working for the campus IT department. It was the beginning of a great learning experience I’m still part of today. Beyond working on large IT projects for the University, I take on general troubleshooting, design slides for TV screens and help with web updates.

Why did you choose UWFox?

I chose UWFox because it’s close to home and less expensive than other UW Colleges. Also it was really important that I could get involved in groups and clubs, something that typically isn’t the focus on two-year campuses. My time spent in Cru, Ballroom Dance Club, Computer Science Club and Paintball Club (president) has not only created lifelong friendships but has enriched my overall college experience.

Have you chosen a major?

I hope to double major in computer science and German and somehow combine those worlds after graduation.

Who is your favorite professor and why?

Bill Bultman, professor of computer science. He’s given me opportunities to learn what the real world of IT is like and has cultivated my interest in the field.

What are your career plans after UWFox?

My dream job would be designing algorithms on my own or at Google. Someday I’d love to live in Germany and maybe own my own computer business.
