Background before UWFox:

“I graduated from H.H. Dow HS in Midland, MI in 1972 and went on to attend Western Michigan University, where I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. After graduating from college, I worked for two years as a racquetball club manager before I decided to enroll at Michigan Technological University, where I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.  I worked in the field of engineering until 2005 when I decided to make a transition into teaching.  I taught computer drafting and tutored at ITT Technical Institute for two years before entering the act! [Alternative Careers in Teaching] program at UWFox.”

Why did you choose UWFox?

“I chose UWFox specifically for the act! program.  It’s designed to transition people with backgrounds and degrees in science or engineering into careers as licensed secondary teachers.  I am finishing up my act! program this semester and have been very happy with it.”

What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?

“I’m learning about the field of education as well as the skills that are valuable for teachers to have.  I enjoy the combination of classes, field experience and volunteer opportunities that are available.”

What are your career plans after UW Fox?

“I will be applying for a teaching license in math at the end of this semester and will be looking for a teaching job for the 2010 school year.”

PedicabOther interesting things you’d like to share?

“I have ridden Pedicabs, or bicycle taxis, for the last 10 years at area events.  In 2005 I built my own cab and am the owner and lead driver of the ‘Black & Tan Bike Cab, LLC’ in Green Bay.”
