Background before UWFox
I attended Hortonville High School and graduated in spring 2011. I took a chemistry course in high school. During one particular class session the instructor talked about careers in Chemical Engineering and the process to becoming an engineer. This piqued my interest in chemistry and engineering.
Why did you choose UWFox?
UWFox is a campus that offers a great education. It has instructors and professors who offer one-on-one time with their students, which is unique in a college setting. Also the cost of attending UWFox is quite appealing.
Have you chosen a major?
Chemical Engineering and Chemistry
What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?
Although it’s not part of the academic curriculum, I’m progressing in my use of proper time management by balancing work, school, and my social life.
In addition to being a student majoring in chemistry, I’m also a student worker in the UWFox chemistry lab. My main task is to prepare chemicals for the students to use during their classes and labs. It’s interesting and good experience for me. I’m learning a lot of valuable information. I’ve learned to be precise about making mental notes since I can’t always get to a notebook to write things down in class or in a lab. I’ve found that documentation is extremely important in academic work, especially in chemistry.
What are your career plans after UWFox?
After I earn my Associate of Arts and Science Degree with an emphasis in chemistry and engineering, I’ll transfer to UW-Madison and double major in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry. After I receive my bachelor’s degree, I want to eventually work in the pharmaceutical area or be a process engineer involving chemical compounds.
Other interesting things about yourself that you’d like to share?
I like learning and I’m naturally inquisitive. My parents helped to develop my work ethic. They were very instrumental in forming my values. My mother is going back to college and my dad is a district leader in construction projects.
I really enjoy helping students get correct results in their chemistry labs. I want to make a difference in people’s lives.
