“I think that UWFox is a great college. Everybody is so friendly and that makes me feel elcome.”

Age: 19

Hometown: Neenah, WI

Current residence: Neenah

When attended UWFox: Fall 2009-Spring 2010

Background before UWFox:

“I graduated from Neenah High School in June 2009.  I started off working at a local bowling alley, and then I received an internship with a small company called First Source Worldwide. I have been with this company for about a year and a half now as an administrative assistant with a lot of focus in the purchasing department.”

Why did you choose UWFox?

“Originally I was going to go to UW-Green Bay. After some issues, I wasn’t able to attend UWGB right away. At first, I was going to just work and take a break from school. But then after thinking about it, I decided that if I took a break, I might not want to go back at all. One of my goals in life was to go to college, and more particular, a university. I decided to check out UWFox and met with a UWFox Student Services advisor when it was extremely close to the beginning of the school year. I applied and got accepted. I have not regretted my decision. I love it here.”

Have you chosen a major?

“I am planning on getting my Associate of Arts and Science degree and then transfer to UWGB to earn my bachelor’s degree. I would like to earn my degree in Wildlife Biology. My dream job would to be a wildlife technician for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.”

What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?

“I think that UWFox is a great college. Everybody is so friendly and that makes me feel welcome. I could walk up to anybody and ask a question and they would be willing to help me. It is really easy to get involved. I recently joined the campus ambassador program and I am hoping to join more organizations. All of the courses I have taken have been incredibly interesting. The campus is so involved with the community as well. For example, it will soon be Christmas and there was a Christmas tree with ornaments so people could give to families who need it. There is always something going on at the school, whether there are comedians, bands, plays, lectures, or athletic events. It saves a lot of money going to UWFox for the same education that I would likely get at another UW campus.”

What are your career plans after UWFox?

“While I would like to work for the state DNR, I’ve been told by many people that I should consider teaching because of my ability to interact so well. So if the DNR doesn’t work out as planned, becoming a science teacher would be an option. I am going to try my best for a job with the DNR first though.”

Other interesting things you’d like to share?

“I qualified for a national bowling tournament in Indianapolis, IN during January 2009. I competed in the tournament during this past July and did quite well. I am hoping to get a bowling club started for UWFox. Not having one was kind of disappointing when I started here.

“My family and school are most important to me.”
