Hometown: Omro, WI
Current residence: Omro, WI
When attended UWFox: Fall 2012- Present
Background before UWFox
I was homeschooled before entering the Omro school system in the 6th grade, and I graduated from Omro High School in 2012. During the summer months, I was a lifeguard at the Omro Family Aquatic Center, our local pool. I would also help my father with his Corvette restoration business, doing the heavy lifting when needed as well as inventory of stock. In high school, I was involved with numerous clubs and sports, including Student Council, National Honor Society, football, powerlifting, and track and field.
While being homeschooled in my younger years, there was the opportunity to travel a lot with my family. I’ve been blessed to see many of our country’s states, and to also have seen many unforgettable sites along the way, including Plymouth Rock, the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, the St. Louis Arch, the Alamo, Los Angeles and the Hollywood sign area, the Grand Canyon, Painted Desert, Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, and Key West, to name just a few of the highlights. My parents thought it beneficial for us to see the places our country is known for, and they were able to incorporate geographical lessons in our travels along with so many other lessons that come with road trips, as well as great family time to spend with each other.
Why did you choose UWFox?
I chose UWFox because of its location, affordability, as well as for the Guarantee Transfer Program. I’ve also had older siblings come through this university, and they have very much enjoyed their experiences here. Commuting from home, it is a 30 minute drive, which isn’t a detrimental factor at all. Financially, I come from a family with five children, including myself, so it makes sense attending a university where I can get the most bang for my buck. The Guarantee Transfer Program is also a very enticing program, letting you transfer to the UW campus of your choice upon completion of an associate’s degree with the proper GPA.
Have you chosen a major?
I have chosen Chiropractic as my major.
What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?
UWFox has given me an experience I wouldn’t trade for anything. All the friendships have been so amazing, which has made my experience here all the better. Being involved in the clubs I’m in, Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU), Ballroom Club, and Ping Pong Club, have given me these relationships and have made for a very rewarding time here. I’ve had the opportunity to become an officer for CRU, as well as Ping Pong, which has taught me how to step up into a leadership role for these clubs, as well as the ability to confer with superiors in order to conform to the rules of our campus.
What are your career plans after UWFox?
I plan on transferring to either UW-Green Bay or UW-Lacrosse in the fall of 2014. There I hope to pursue my degree in Chiropractic, and upon completion of my undergrad and graduate school, I would like to begin my practice somewhere in the Fox Valley.
Other interesting things about yourself that you’d like to share?
I’ve developed a love of traveling from the years of being able to see the sites in America. I had the opportunity to go to Europe for a month and a half this past summer with a very good friend I made right here at UWFox, so of course I was more than happy to go. It was an experience I will hold dear to me for a lifetime. I was able to see cities of Krakow and Warsw in Poland, as well as Berlin and Munchen in Germany. This was an incredible experience, and I was fortunate enough to see many of the sites in these countries as well, including Auschwitz, the Berlin Wall, the Brandenburg Gate, and Neuschwanstein.
