Background before UWFox

I attended Seymour High School and graduated in 1994.  While I was in high schooI I worked at places like PDQ car wash, Don’s Quality Market, and Mystery Hills Stables.  Right out of high school I was fortunate to be able to visit my sister Brenda in Okinawa, Japan where she was stationed in the U.S. Air Force. That visit finalized my decision to join the U.S. Army Reserves. I loved the lifestyle of a soldier, the ability to meet all walks of life. I had the opportunity to have a second family; we were all in the same boat - our families were far away. I also volunteered with Black Creek Rescue as an EMT-Basic and an EMT-IV Tech for a few years. Volunteering with them really helped me with my decision to get into working with the deceased.

Why did you choose UWFox?

I’ve been talking about going back to college for a long time and really didn’t know how to go about it! After much support from family and college faculty members that I’ve had the privilege to know, they guided me to my road of success by starting at UWFox.  Once I put my feet down and made the plunge, I found that it’s much easier than I thought to better myself.  Also there were so many resources available to make going back to college very affordable!!

Have you chosen a major?

Biology

What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?

I found that college is not intimidating at all. UWFox faculty, academic staff and other staff members - everyone is here to help you succeed. UWFox offers free tutoring for everyone who needs it, whether it is one time or for the whole semester. They are there to help.

What are your career plans after UWFox?

I’m not exactly sure what career route I’m going to take at this point but I’m researching the possibility becoming a surgical technician that works with organ harvesting or becoming a pathologist assistant.

Other interesting things about yourself that you’d like to share?

I’ve been married for 16 years and am a mother of three boys: 16, 14 and 12. They keep me very busy! When I’m not working at the Tenth Frame in Appleton, going to classes or studying, I love to take pictures of my kids and others who ask. We enjoy going up north when we can find time.
