Background before UWFox:

“I attended my junior and senior year of high school at Saint Mary Central in Neenah. I made some great friends while going there. I graduated in Spring 2009.”

Why did you choose UWFox?

“The first reason I chose UWFox is because of my campus visit there. I went to the ‘College Preview’ night where I saw Campus Dean Jim Perry for the first time. He is such a sweet guy and I enjoyed listening to him talk about the campus. I was impressed by the way that the faculty and staff running the event treated each other. They all seemed very friendly and welcoming. I didn’t feel like I was being ‘sold over,’ and felt like I was being given good advice when they told me all the reasons why I should come to UWFox. I have received everything they promised that night including great clubs, a nice environment, a good price and a truly great opportunity to excel as a student.

“The second reason I came to UWFox is because I want to live at home. I love my family and wouldn’t want to be away from them. It is also smarter because you can save money that way. I like the tuition ‘price tag’ of UWFox better than those of a lot of four-year campuses.”

“The third reason I chose UWFox is because I have gone to smaller schools all my life and have always enjoyed the nice relationships that I have been fortunate to have with my teachers. I honestly feel that UWFox is the best academic choice I could have made for myself.”

Have you chosen a major?

“I’ve not chosen an academic major yet, but I am considering majoring in elementary education because I enjoy working with children so much.”

What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?

“To be completely honest I was scared to death of college. Like almost any teenager transitioning from one environment to the next, I was worried about making friends. I thought that it would be difficult because I was relatively shy in high school.  I proved myself wrong. All the faculty and staff at UWFox turned out to be wonderful. I feel like my true self is finally coming out. I would have to say that, out of all the school transitions I’ve encountered, whether inter-state or intra-state, UWFox was my best.

“The first friend I made at UWFox I met in my second class on my first day of classes. She turned around in her desk and introduced herself. She told me about college and gave me some good advice. She told me about how important it is to talk to my professors. She told me about the campus and how she loved the picnic that UWFox holds every spring. I’m so looking forward to participating in it this year. She was so nice to me when she didn’t even know me.

“I’ve made a lot of amazing friends here. All of us are so different, coming from different backgrounds and we all have very different personalities. I love every single one of them. They are all great and supportive friends that I can always have good, healthy fun with. The relationships that I have made at UWFox have proved to be life long lasting friendships.

“One thing that I owe to UWFox is getting involved in dance. I am an extremely clumsy person. I always dreaded dancing in any situation until now. I joined the UWFox Ballroom Dance Club. It is definitely one of the best decisions I’ve made since I became a student here. I’ve not only made a lot of friends but have also unveiled a passion for dancing, which I never thought I could have possessed in my wildest dreams. I plan on competing this Spring in free-style dance with an amazing dancer and friend as my partner.”

What are your career plans after UWFox?

“After I earn my Associate Degree at UWFox, I plan on transferring to a four-year campus to pursue my choice of an academic major.”

Other interesting things you’d like to share?

“Over the past year I’ve really been influenced by my job. I have the best job in the world: I’m a nanny. I watch four kids for a wonderful family. I love my job so much that I’m considering a career in elementary education. I love working with kids and am disappointed when I can’t catch all of the little things they do that are so special.”

“I’ve been fortunate to have been able visit two countries outside of the United States within the past two years. I went to Rome, Italy with my family last Spring and had a wonderful time. I had previously taken four years of Latin, so the trip was twice as enjoyable because I could read inscriptions on famous pieces of art and on buildings around Rome. Two things that stood out to me was the beauty of the art and the architecture throughout the city. I realized that Italy is different from the United States in so many ways. I feel that by having gone to Rome, I had my eyes opened to the world outside of what I know. Another place that I’ve visited during the past year is Mexico. I had a great time there as well. I was most interested in the language during my visit. I’ve taken only two years of Spanish but I could still decipher a lot of what the people were saying. It’s always nice to be able to apply what you learn in school to real-life situations.”
