When attended UWFox
I originally started at UWFox in fall of 1989. After a long hiatus I returned starting in the spring semester of 2010.
Background before UWFox
I attended Little Chute High School and graduated in 1988. I’ve been a snowboard instructor and a lift operator as well as a ski technician. I was a plasterer for 15 years, a bartender off and on for 16 years. Most recently I was a printing press operator. For several years I was a snowboard bum, traveling to virtually all of the mountainous states west of Wisconsin. I’ve lived in OR, MI, and of course WI.
Why did you choose UWFox?
After much deliberation and many discussions with my wife I decided to return to college. I came to the conclusion that what I was doing with my life wasn’t what I wanted, so with the support of my family I enrolled at UWFox with the goal of changing my life for the better. UWFox is the best fit for me because of it’s proximity to my home as well as the lower tuition cost.
Have you chosen a major?
Elementary Education with a minor in Environmental Education
What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?
As an older student I’m much more comfortable talking with my professors and taking full advantage of their willingness to help with any questions or problems I may have. The facilities and overall learning environment here are wonderful and, in my opinion, a great asset to the Fox Cities and surrounding areas.
What are your career plans after UWFox?
I hope to find work teaching at the elementary level, preferably in a charter school with an environmental focus.
Other interesting things about yourself that you’d like to share?
I’m a married father of four unique boys with ages ranging from 15 years to less than one year old. Camping (Rock Island holds a special place for my family), hunting, fishing, swimming, snowboarding, and any other activity that I can do with my family are favorite activities. I enjoy teaching other people how to do things and helping people to understand new concepts. The expression, “the moment in which people ‘get it,’” is what makes me want to be a teacher.
