Background before UWFox

I graduated in 2010 from Appleton West High School. The summer after I graduated I went on a trip to Jamaica for my graduation present. I had never been out of the United States but when I was in Jamaica I didn’t want to come back because it was so beautiful there and I had such a good time. I’ve traveled to many states and my favorite is Tennessee. I’ve worked at The Dog House & Pet Center for about four years and what I do is take care of animals there.

Why did you choose UWFox?

The reason I chose UWFox was because I wasn’t sure on the major I wanted to pursue and I thought that it would be a good idea to save money and just get my general education credits done with and then transfer to a four-year campus. I also heard good things about UWFox and thought that it would be a good place to start to the next chapter of my life.

Have you chosen a major?

Criminal Justice

What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?

The professors here are very encouraging and want you to succeed. Coming into college, I didn’t know what to expect.  My professors, especially during my first semester, were really helpful in getting me started on the tools to prepare me for college life and homework. Another opportunity that I find rewarding here is being a part of the women’s basketball team. Ever since I was five years old, basketball has been my favorite sport and I am so glad that I came out for the team. It’s really gratifying when you’re recognized for what you do, such as being on the basketball team as well as also being a full-time student. My coaches and teammates are the best. I couldn’t ask for a better team to play with.  We finished second in the 2011 Wisconsin Collegiate Conference state tournament and we’re in the playoffs again this year.

What are your career plans after UWFox?

I plan on earning my Associate of Arts and Science Degree at UWFox and then transfer to UW Oshkosh this fall to receive my Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. I want to become a police officer and I have ever since I was in second grade. When I attend UW Oshkosh I also hope to play on the women’s basketball team there until I graduate.

Other interesting things about yourself that you’d like to share?

Growing up, my mother has taken care of me all by herself and taught me so much I need to know in life. She still continues to be my number one fan and supporter. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for everything that she has done for me.
