Geography Lecturer
Position and Campus Overview
UW-Fox Valley is looking for Geography lecturer/s for the 2008-09 academic year. The University of Wisconsin - Fox Valley is one of thirteen campuses that collectively make up the University of Wisconsin Colleges. The UW Colleges is the part of the University of Wisconsin system that delivers freshman - sophomore courses for student seeking an associates degree or a foundation for a bachelor's degree. Fall contract starts August 26. Teaching excellence is required.
Teaching Responsibilities
Fall 2008:
- GEO 101 "Introduction to Cultural Geography", Lecture M 6:30-9:15 p.m.
- Plus office hours for students
Spring 2009:
- GEO 110 "World Regional Geography", Lecture M 6:30-9:15 p.m.
- GEO 106 "Introduction to Geographic Information Sciences (GIS)"
- Lecture MWF 11:00-11:50 a.m.
- Lab T 1:00-3:00 p.m.
- Plus office hours for students
Course Descriptions
- GEO 101 Introduction to Cultural Geography, A survey of world patterns of culture, such as population, language, religion, urban and rural settlement, and their causal relationships, emphasizing the global diversity of world cultures, contrasting world views and the issues thus raised. 3 credits.
- GEO 106 Survey of Geographic Information Sciences (GIS), An introduction to methods for organizing and interpreting spatial
information using state-of-the-art techniques and tools of geographic
information sciences. These include remote sensing, computer cartography,
global positioning systems (GPS) and spatial analysis. Hands-on
experiences provide a foundation for higher level courses and applications
across the disciplines, e.g. anthropology, sociology, planning, history, as well as geography, geology, and climatology. 4 credits. - GEO 110 World Regional Geography,
Introduction to cultural geography through the integrated study
of representative and significant world regions. Examples will compare and
contrast present and potential ethnic, social, political, and environmental
problems across select regions of the world, and explore basic solutions. 3 credits.
Qualifications
Minimum Master's Degree in discipline or related field required.
Salary
Salary - If hired to teach all above-listed sections at the rank of Lecturer: Fall 2008: $2,729; Spring 2009: $7,642, using the 2008-09 compensation schedule. Actual salary is dependent upon rank and total teaching load throughout UW Colleges.
