Dr. Scott Emmert, English professor at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley, has been awarded a faculty sabbatical for the spring 2018 semester. Through the faculty sabbatical program, recipients are able to engage in focused study or research during the semester.
Emmert will conduct archival research on journalism and writing during World War I. In addition to working as reporters, American writers such as Ring Lardner, Damon Runyon and Richard Harding Davis also wrote fiction. His research will examine how war reporting affected each writer’s fiction. And, how each writer’s literary style influenced their journalism.
Emmert earned his Ph.D. at Purdue University. He joined the UWFox campus in 2002 and teaches American literature and composition courses. He co-edited with Steven Trout “World War I in American Fiction: An Anthology of Short Stories.”
