Men‘s and Women‘s Tennis

2009

The Cyclones Tennis Team will be looking for a quick start from many new faces this year, returning only one member from both the Men‘s and Women‘s teams from last year.  The team will be looking to maintain or improve its showing at last year‘s championships, where the women’s team claimed a 2nd place finish in the WJCAA.

On the men‘s team, the Cyclones return only Dwight Veleker (Waupaca), who won the consolation bracket at #4 singles last season.  New players include Tou Wa Chan (Appleton West), James Krych (Kimberly), John Vermeern (Appleton East), and Griffin O’Brien (Xavier).

On the women‘s team, the Cyclones return only Christina Stevens (Oshkosh North), last year’s WJCAA #3 singles champion.  New players include Meghan Thompson (New London), Megan Drzwiecki (Menasha), Katie Kamps (Kimberly), and Amanda Schroth.

The team has been practicing in the gym until the snow melts, but will get outside on the courts at the earliest opportunity as spring approaches.  New players are always welcome.  Although young, this year‘s squad has already demonstrated a great deal of skill, willingness to learn, and commitment to improving their all-around games to make the transition to college competition.
