Overview
Psychology is defined as the scientific study of behavior and mental
processes. With such a broad and all encompassing definition, just about
any human activity or endeavor can be considered a legitimate area of
investigation for psychological research. Major research areas include
developmental psychology, cognitive psychology and personality.
According to a survey by the American Psychological Association, the major
professional specialties in psychology include clinical and counseling
psychology (diagnosing and treating individuals with psychological disorders),
industrial and organizational psychology (involved in personnel decisions
and in improving employee morale and job satisfaction) and educational
and school psychology (involved in testing and counseling of students
and improving curriculum design).
If you are planning to major in Psychology, you will spend your freshman
and sophomore years at the University of Wisconsin–Fox Valley studying
the basic sciences, mathematics, oral/written communications, humanities,
social sciences, and core Psychology courses. The junior and senior years
at your transfer institution will be devoted in large part to specialized
Psychology coursework.
