Position Description:
The administrative program specialist will serve as the Associate Campus Dean. The appointment is a half time, academic year position, with a stipend for summer service. The Associate Campus Dean serves at the pleasure of the UW-Fox Valley Campus Dean. The appointee will devote 50% time to administration, 50% time to teaching (one half of normal departmental credit hour or contact hour load averaged over two semesters). This is a three-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal.
The appointee assumes significant responsibility for curricular leadership of the campus. Reporting to the Campus Dean, s/he is responsible for coordination with the governance committees handling faculty and curriculum matters (Appointments, Curriculum, and Evaluation).
Typical duties include:
Curricular Planning
- Conduct curricular studies that provide data for long-range planning, in conjunction with the Curriculum Committee, and prepare staffing documents as part of the UW Colleges Protocol of Planning, Curriculum, Staffing and Budget.
- Review the academic program in light of students’ curricular plans, scheduling preferences, and logical sequences, and in consultation with the UW Fox Curriculum Committee and Director of Student Services, recommend strategies for recruitment and retention of students.
- Confer with Curriculum Committee, the faculty, and the Director of Student Services on scheduling of classes for the academic year, inter term, and summer session.
- Coordinate production of the academic timetable (schedule of courses).
- In collaboration with the Director of Continuing Education, identify classes and instructors for off-campus credit classes.
- Coordinate cooperative programs with other UW institutions.
Hiring
- Assist in the preparation of position descriptions for faculty and instructional academic staff to be advertised by academic departments or (for local searches) by the office staff.
- Schedule interviews and coordinate interviews for Instructional Academic Staff with UW Fox Appointments Committee. Serve as the Dean’s Office representative on Instructional Academic Staff interviews.
- Confer with the UW Fox Campus Dean as the Dean makes hiring decisions for faculty and instructional academic staff positions subsequent to recommendations of the Appointments Committee.
- Review the annual instructional needs and assist with preparation of the annual staffing plan. Serve as an ex-officio, non-voting member of the Staffing Prioritization Committee.
Evaluation, Retention, Promotion
- Review student evaluations and other evidence of effectiveness of instructional academic staff (IAS), and make reappointment recommendations to the Campus Dean for IAS. If need for improvement by an IAS member is identified, the Associate Dean will confer with and advise the IAS member as to how improvement can be effected.
- Assist the campus Evaluations Committee in reviewing instructional academic staff activity reports for the purpose of merit ratings.
- Confer with the Campus Dean as the Dean makes decisions based upon recommendations from departments and the campus on matters relating to promotion of instructional academic staff.
